6th October Thursday (Graphic Design)

Now this day was very interesting because we were asked to make protest signs for the day. It could be about anything and being the immature kinda guy after coming up with some ideas I ended up developing my Harambe idea which everybody loved. My Idea revolved around the #dickoutsforHarambe moto that had and is still going on right now. I was actually annoyed with his death though and so this could be seen as showing some respect towards the Ape. The task got me thinking and really trying as it was really engaging and fun to do. We had to sketch out ideas, come up with some typography ideas and develop them onto cardboard and paper and we used tape and a bamboo stick to actually make the protest sign which was awesome to do. Got a lot of reactions from my sign as it made people laugh and made others baffled as they didn't understand what  'dickoutsforHarambe' meant which is funny for me. We later had to take pictures of our protest sign. I really enjoyed the session and found it fun and creative as i wouldn't have expected that we would be making protest signs for graphics which was a nice twist.

4th October Tuesday ( Graphic Design)

We then moved on to Illustration for this session which is what I had been waiting for as i love illustration, so to know what Graphic Design has the illustration aspect made me very happy and made to enjoy the session. We explored more into Graphics with the different pathways involved and how it isn't all about typography as you can include illustration, motion graphics, animation, even coding with Graphic Design which really opned my mind more on Graphic Design.

Later on we did some drawing tasks for where we had to draw people on our table in different ways like drawing someone with our least dominant hand which was quite tricky but I actually liked the outcome of my sketch (a friend thought I used my dominant hand for the sketch) Did some drawings where we couldn't look at the paper, had to draw continuous lines which we have done before during the pathway and I could see some improvement although it still looks all weird and not my style. However I really enjoyed the session as it allowed me to know more about graphics which I been longing to know about as might be my chosen pathway for degree.

3rd October Monday ( Graphic Design)

During my final week for foundation rotation, I learnt about Graphic Design. On our first day we focused on typography which I wasn't really fond of. I had a friend complain to me about how all they are doing in graphic design is typography (they go UAL)  so it got me worrying about whether Graphic Design was mainly focused towards that root which would have put me off Graphics.
 For our first task,Working in our table groups we had to research two Graphic Designers and write down facts about them and how they link with Graphic Design. We looked at Saul Bass and Marian Bantjes. I remember Saul Bass as I researched him in College.

After we were giving the task of coming up with different typographies related to our slogan (ours was "out with the new, in with the old" relating to Brexit) I found this task quite enjoyable as I've never really done much typography so to try and come up with different creative ideas was worth the challenge

We then moved on to creating our slogan at a large scale. It was quite challenging and long to do with all the cutting out and painting but we did it. We used someones idea for this slogan where it was made to look like the European union symbol on the flag which was very clever to do. I liked how it came out overall, it's simple yet effective which is what I like about it.

30th September Friday ( F & T)

Today was making day, where we turned our ideas into reality! It was quite a busy, stressful day with the making and photos however it was extremely fun to do. 

We first started with making our designs. I had to get a mannequin and work on it from there on using needles to hold it in place. We had the option to make it wearable or not and I chose to leave it as I preferred to just make my design. I started with the shoulders and made a round loop with the paper by cutting the paper into strips and gluing the ends together then pinning them together with the pins which worked better than expected with was great.

I continued and worked on the front. I added layers of strips with the ends glued down together and made a design for the front area. I liked how it was coming together however I felt as though the design was quite lacking still but i continued as I needed to finish it before adding in extra features if needed.
I then moved onto the back and decided to add a more geometric design to it by folding a strip of paper in a specific way to give off that look which I loved as I often use to fold strips of paper into patterns and uses that skill to my advantage ( not a hard skill but still nice) 

However even then I still found my design lacking something so i ended up adding more geometric patterns to my design and changing it up a bit. So for the front area i folded the ends and the bottom area into a zig zag pattern while adding in a geometric pattern to the front (which looks like a fish but still nice) I also added another pattern to the neck area and I really loved the end result with this as it really helped my design looking more eye catching and creative. For improvements I would add even more and exaggerate my design to make it more interesting. However overall I liked how it came out, the only thing i didn't like was the lack of colour as it was all with white paper so i would have also uses coloured paper if I did it again.

29th September Thursday (F & T)

During the day, we started off with adding 2d and 3d designs to images of Models. I used paper and created different designs for each part of the picture, trying to think outside the box and make it look funky and creative. I found this task very relaxing to do as I could just wonder off and come up with interesting ideas. After we finished this everyone had to stick their designs onto the wall, it was nice looking at everyone else's work as I could see lots of creative designs that I wouldn't have thought of.
After we started planning out our designs for what we would make on the following way as we were going to make an actual design with a mannequin so I sketched up some designs in my sketchbook, using the designs I just made for inspiration.
later on we shown through the exploratory stage: wearable clothes to gain more understanding to fashion which was quite interesting to learn about. I enjoyed the lesson as it was creative however it felt kinda lacking still as it was nothing really exciting and eye catching for me.

28th September Wednesday ( F & T)

We had Life drawing during the day, where we had to draw a woman with and without clothes. For the first part of the lesson we drew her with her clothes on. She was sitting down and we had some minutes to draw her. As this was my first time doing life drawing I did find it quite challenging to draw her, I could already see how stiff my drawing was. However I always wanted to do Life drawing as it'll help me improve on talking people as I like to draw characters in my own time so I was very dwelled in with this life drawing session. We still had to do those different drawing methods where we had to draw her without looking at our paper and then we had to draw her without looking at her which was annoying to do but was still needed.

For the second part, we drew her naked in a series of different ways. I had to draw her with different mediums like pencil, pen, crayons, charcoal, even masking tape which was very different but interesting to do. I did find it a lot more challenging drawing her as we had to draw her with different mediums and we mostly drew her without any tables and we had to stay on the floor which was quite uncomfortable and annoying but it helped let us get out of our comfort zone which is definitely needed to improve.Near the end we were asked to draw specific areas like the hands, feet, eyes and I liked him as I could focus on the areas i liked and needed work on. Overall i really enjoyed the session and would love to continue with life drawing so that I can practice and improve on my skills.

27th September Tuesday (F & T )

During the beginning of the lesson, we learnt more about the fashion and textiles pathways. I usually thought there was just fashion where you design clothes but there was a lot more to it. There was fashion promotion, textiles, paths that led to making accessories, advertising etc. This was very nice to learn about as I got to understand the fashion industry a lot more.

Afterwords, we had to bring of an image from any artist we liked and made 3D sculptures inspired from the photo. i found this task quite confusing to do and I was lacking good ideas but still tried to come up with somethings. Ended up with a box and a triangle sculpture with a silhouette. We then had to photocopy one of them multiple times as we would use it for later. However there were too many people using the photocopy so I never got the chance to photocopy alot and our next task was to create a clothing design and we had to use either our 2d or 3d work to add towards the design. 
I ended up adding in my box to the design as it was the only suitable thing to add as my photocopies were terrible and i didn't have a lot as i didn't have enough time to photocopy it lots of time. However our design still came out looking great due to the others creativity and ideas. Overall I enjoyed this task (especially as we got to play music in the background) due to how cooperative everyone was together.
